Balancing Back into Harmony - Honouring The Divine Feminine & Masculine Energies

Recently I have found myself receiving a lot more information on the Divine Union, the union of the feminine and masculine energies and what it means to be in harmony, achieving peace and Love, honouring both as we possess each, within us. I ended up in meditations, on websites, having conversations, reading on the subject for hours, taking in Native American traditions, other tribal traditions and how man and woman, feminine and masculine beautifully dance when they dance together. When we are in harmony with both energies and the people in our lives are in harmony with both energies we dance together in harmony. This goes not just for relationships but for the whole world.

Stress and illness are nature’s way of telling you that you’re out of balance. All life is ruled by the interplay of two dynamic forces known in traditional Chinese medicine as yin and yang or The Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine energies. Yin is negative, yang positive. Yin is feminine, yang masculine. Yin is passive, yang active. They’re opposite yet complementary forces, never equal, but cycle together in harmony. One is always ascending while the other descends. The yin/yang symbol is a wonderful expression of this interplay. Even though they’re opposite, yin and yang can’t exist independently. As Alan Watts put it so eloquently in Tao: The Watercourse Way, “My inside arises mutually with my outside and though the two may differ they cannot be separated."

When the yin and yang of your body are in disharmony (Destructive Masculine and Destructive Feminine energies), it’s like trying to ride a unicycle with the spokes of the wheel short on one side and long on the other. The hub is out of center and your ride is very bumpy. If you continue for long, you’ll break the wheel and perhaps the bike. Just so, if your body continues in disharmony for long, illness occurs.

This was a subject I had never touched upon before so I smile at the synchronicities and embrace and honour all that keeps leading me towards it at the moment teaching me more and more everyday.

Understanding The Divine Masculine & Divine Feminine Energies:

Every one of us has both the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine energies within us. Men typically lead with Masculine energy (Divine or Destructive) and women typically lead with Feminine energy (Divine or Destructive) however this is not always the case. Some women lead with Masculine energy and some men lead with Feminine energy. There is no right or wrong lead preference and it is gender-neutral, meaning that the energies are not limited to either male or female.

The Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine energy play critical roles in how we think, act, and behave. As well as The Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine there is also the Destructive Feminine and the Destructive Masculine; that is when the energies are too much or too little, creating an unhealthy balance, toxic traits/behaviours and sometimes also ill-health.

When both of the Divine energies are merged together in a harmonious way, in balance, they allow us to understand life better. The process of merging both of these two energies eventually allows us to achieve true spiritual enlightenment and intelligence but most of all harmony and peace. For these reasons, balancing the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine energy is the key to spiritual growth and ascension. In Hindu traditions the Masculine is Shiva and the Female is Shakti. The God and the Goddess. Priest and Priestess, Sun and Moon, and the coming together of these is known as The Divine Union or The Divine Marriage. These energies are written about in scriptures from thousands of years ago.

The Masculine & Feminine Energy Traits:

The Divine Feminine energy is an intelligent and loving energy that contains the quality of intuition, compassion, collaboration, cooperation, intimacy, love, fertility, life, vulnerability, authenticity, passion, emotion, creativity, empathy, collaboration, spirituality, holistic thought, and right brain thinking. It responds with "being".

The Divine Masculine energy is an intelligent energy that possesses the quality of analytic and rational thinking, competition, determination, protection, creation, power, self-control, curiousity, strength, safety, responsibility, leadership, gola-orientated, provider, linear thinking, logical thought, action, and left brain thinking. It responds with "doing".

Can you see which one you possess more of? Forget the physical form of male and female, these are energies, they don't have a physical form but can you tell which one you lead more with? Is it Masculine or Feminine? Maybe you can also begin to notice what your family, friends, or colleagues posess more of?

When there is too much or too little of either energy they become Destructive.

The Destructive Feminine energy traits include: co-dependance, passive-aggression, feeling enslaved, intimidated, desperation, powerless, apathetic, surrendered, cold.

The Destructive Masculine energy traits include: aggression, violence, conquer, rape, steal, harm, torture, terrorise, force, egotistical, bully, narcissist, pillage, exploit, greed, war, lack, scarcity, heat.

Now can you start to see where there may be an imbalance? The goal is to balance our Divine Feminine and Masculine energies in ourselves as much as possible (though generally one will be more dominant) and move away from Destructive Masculine and Feminine energies as much as possible.

"Our physical world today is governed by Destructive Masculine energies & ideals. Roughly 5,000 years ago egalitarian society, in which men and women were equally powerful and respected, began changing. This change occurred once humans began viewing themselves superior to and more powerful than nature, rather than equal to or one with nature. When humans began owning & domesticating animals, claiming land, and fighting over property, the Destructive Masculine energies began their rise to dominance.

Humans then, already feeling superior to nature, began battling one another: between genders, races, cultures, religions and generations.Humans and nature were considered equal, men and women were considered equal and all people were considered equal at one time. Though primitive, this arrangement was balanced. The pendulum, over the past 5,000 years, has swung to the extreme and we are now destroying nature, our divine individual natures and each other."

To help the world we must help ourselves first.

How to Re-establish balance between the Masculine & Feminine:

1. Reach out to nature – take a walk and absorb the energy of nature into yourself with every breath. Walk barefoot on the Earth to ground yourself and connect your energies with the Earths. Sit against trees, aligning your spine with the trees trunk. Hold trees, hug trees, touch trees, really embrace and connect with nature and everything in it from its plants to its animals. This is the source of creation which we are all connected to, distance from the source creates disease (dis-ease).

2. Nutrition – take time to eat health foods instead of grazing on empty junk. Nourish your body with healing foods. Plants, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds. Practice mindful eating. Savour every bite and give thanks.

3. Water – plenty of pure, clean water will help flush out toxins and rehydrate you. Most people underestimate their need for water.

4. Meditation – employ some quality quiet time to get in touch with yourself—travel inwards to realize where you’ve become deficient and work to correct the deficiency filling any space with love, releasing any fears, worries and negative emotions. Breathe deep. Make your home your sacred space. Light some incense, play some meditation music if it helps you and don't fight your thoughts, simply let them pass through and take the focus back on to your breath. Visualisation is very healthy, letting your imagination run wild imagining the sort of life you want to achieve, who with, what you look like, how beautiful you shine. Our manifestations create our realities. Allow yourself to just be a human BEING, in a world where we are so heavily focused on doing.

5. Receive a compliment, support or a gift without self-criticism or reservation - when someone tells you how pretty or handsome you are, do not be self-deprecating. Instead, say, "Thank You!"

6. Do activities or projects that are collaborative in nature - such as a group class or a volunteer project where you are part of a team. Perhaps a team building retreat for you and your employees may be in order.

7. Laugh and live authentically - Living with the need for perfectionism is toxic. Perfectionism is rooted in fear; it is about control. Let yourself be a little vulnerable with another person you care about.

8. Find a hobby outside of work that is rooted in creativity/joy/peace - such as painting, writing, music, photography, sculpting, playing, anything that you love that feels good!

9. Honour yourself - take time out for yourself. No one else. Just you time. Speak to yourself kindly, congratulate your efforts, accept your flaws and see your mistakes as lessons. Be kind to yourself. Tell yourself you are beautiful, handsome, worthy of Love and nourishment. We can only give to others when we have given to ourselves first. "Fuel tanks" can't run on empty. When we are depleted we must refuel ourselves with whatever is nurturing to us.

10. Take Salt Baths with Essential Oils - these are great for cleansing and relaxation.

11. Have Fun & Play! - don't take your life so seriously, spend time around kids, get in touch with your inner child. Let go and feel fluid!
